Miniature Finds

There’s a store in downtown Waterford called Tradewinds. The store is beautiful and always interesting to visit. The store owner has such a wide range of stuff that I often find jewels here and there to take home. After my dentist appointment when I found myself alone (which is a rare, rare occasion), I decided to pop in. Lo and behold, I have found goodies. Everything came up to $20.56 including tax.

The Breakdown:

Hutch – $8.99

Mandolin – $5.99

Treasure Chest – $1.99

Birds – $1.99

All in all, a great deal! I’ll be painting the hutch shabby chic white. I haven’t decided quite yet. The mandolin and the treasure chest are going in Chanterelle’s bedroom or living room. The birds are for my last Unicorn Project.

I aim to finish a magical cottage diorama (bedroom, living room, kitchen) for my Pullip- Chanterelle. I want to design a Parisienne apartment for my Blythes (bedroom, living room, kitchen, and possibly balcony/terrace). This will all be done in the future sometime.

I’ll definitely visit Tradewinds again in a few months. Tradewinds is located in downtown Waterford right on Main St.

Upcoming Blythe/Pullip Carrier Custom Project

Avocado Hatbox Purse from Etsy

I got this from etsy.com yesterday. Yes, I re-iterate – Etsy is a dangerous site. I will be customizing this soon when I am done two projects I have on my plate at the moment. I am planning on beaded felt-appliques to glue onto the carrier as well as other personal designs. I also hope to make a custom fabric interior along with a cushion inside if it’s needed. I want the inside to match the outside aesthetically.

I’ll be working on this alongside Dorothy. Right now, I am almost done a labour of love for a friend’s baby shower and the Last Unicorn Project for a magazine submission. There will be pictures of both probably at the end of October depending on the magazine’s deadline and the baby shower is at the end of October. I still want to keep it a surprise for my friend.

The diorama project is shelved indefinitely. My studio has to be finished so I have the space/room and also my incredible printer out. I can print out custom wallpaper for my dioramas, along with other cool stuff. I think I’ll have to wait on it for a while and just continue to make clothes in the meantime.

The Cloak of Doom

It’s done. The cloak of doom- beading and white tree embroidery is done. Just need to sculpt the hooves and horn. All the sculpting will be done after Natalie’s in bed. It’s finally getting done!

The Last Unicorn Project

Chanel - My first Pullip

Chanel is my early Christmas present and she is a Pullip. Pullips are wonderful dolls with tiny jointed bodies. Most owners tend to swap out the original body for an obitsu one. This trend is also prevalent in Blythe owners who swap out the original for a pure Neemo body. Because I just plan on having one Blythe and one Pullip, I’ll be keeping the original bodies. I am very tempted to make Victorian style cases for both of them but that requires my studio in the basement to be done. I want to display both beautiful girls in custom niches. It’s basically transforming a wooden box with a latch into a little dollhouse/niche. It’ll be a DIY project I want to do in the future- perhaps when I take time off near Christmas?

Anyway, Chanel will be my model for my Last Unicorn Project. I will be sculpting hooves and a unicorn horn. Her outfit will be in lavender. I’m going to start her outfit as soon as tonight. I think I’ll need to make an elaborate skirt which is short in front and long in the back to show off her hooves. I need to recheck my fabric because I am certain I have lavender silk dupioni for the over dress and froths of cream fabric for the underdress. This dress will definitely include embroidery and beading.

On the embroidery front, I also have Dorothy’s hoop waiting to get appliqued. I’ve re-tweaked the design to showcase the colourful characters of The Wizard of Oz. I hope to work on it intermittently while I’m getting my Last Unicorn Project underway. I still have to go to my framer and get Little Mermaid, Rococo Cinderella, Little Red, and Swan Girl framed for the County Fair.

This summer, I feel like my creativity/energy/motivation is diminished. The volatile weather has turned me into a crippled zombie. I suffer from weather-triggered migraines and this summer has been exceptionally dismal. Every day is a battle and a challenge to get things done. I consider it a good day when chores get done. Since I don’t know how I’ll feel at any given day, I set little tasks and allot more time to get things done. Most of my creative time is spent at night after the little one is in bed and sometimes if I’m lucky when Natalie naps. However, in most cases, I feel so sick I need to nap when Natalie naps just so I have the energy to run after her. Fall is almost here and my migraines are fairly gone in the winter. I’m a perky bunny in the winter time while my husband who enjoys his sunshine, turns into a SAD zombie. Natalie looks like she’s taking after her father because her favourite place is “Owww-shied” (outside). What ever will I do when winter blizzards snows us in?

Blythe Project

Givenchy

I’ve been invited to do an online magazine submission. I was hoping to do a Pullip project but I don’t know when my Pullip will arrive so I’ll be using my Blythe. Givenchy is a custom Blythe I bought off Yahoo! Japan Auctions. I will be doing a fairy outfit for her. If my Pullip arrives on time, I’ll make something for her too. I will be naming my Pullip – Chanel. Two of my fave designers of all time. I just can’t help myself.  This means my hoop Dorothy will be on hold for a bit. It is prepped and I may do the felt appliques in the meantime.
