Christmas Wreath

Yes, the greeting I used the PC version. I am alive and well. I finished my novel back in early December. I will begin edits right after Christmas. In the meantime, I had to let the manuscript sit. While it sat, I felt like I needed more holiday stress. I began this Bucilla kit and finished it in a week and a half. Yes I pretty much killed myself. I believe this kit is meant to be finished in at least two weeks or more. I was determined to have it hung on our front door by Christmas and lo and behold, it’s up!

I’ve changed the pattern and made my tweaks to make it my own. I hope you all are with loved ones and having that wonderful epic holiday meal you look forward to all year long. I may be starting more embroidery projects in the new year but it all depends on the editing of my novel. 🙂

Dorothy WIP #2

Dorothy WIP #2

All the gang are here! The applique process is done and it’s time for my favourite part- beading and embroidery detailing! I’ve been doing really well progress wise with this piece.  The Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow are in dancing poses. It’s a play on the words “Ding Dong!” which I will be embroidering/beading somewhere on the piece.

I’m also still writing on the side. I write all day in snippets and I’ve started a plot chart. I’m onto plotting chapter 7. I hope I can post some sample characters or even excerpts in this blog when I finish. I can’t believe the amount of work I’m getting done despite wrestling with migraines on a daily basis and running after a 1.5 year old.

I hope your day is as productive as mine!

Little Progress

February 17th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Little progress has been made. I’ve finished the skirt and as you can see, have done dainty little eyelashes for Cinderella. I hope to get the other side of the skirt started. I have my hands full fighting off sinus issues and a little 10-month old who has learned to throw massive crying tantrums. Busy, busy! Unfortunately at the end of the night, when I have my free time, I just want to snuggle with the husband and play Little Big Planet 2 to unwind. I want to get more sewing done and hope to do some free-hand embroidery again tonight.

Devil in the Details

Yup, it’s detail-oriented and takes a long time to do. I’m satisfied with the results tho. I hope to finish the lower part of this skirt and the other side. The blue underdress will be tackled another day. It is so time consuming that progress will be slow. I may post other topics in between but you do see that the results reflect the tediousness of the task.

Alice in Progress

January 28th, 2011 § 2 comments § permalink

This is technically a WIP #3. It gives me and you an overall view of the work. Last night, I was contemplating adding another character to the right but this morning, I’m not so sure anymore. I was going to add the Mad Hatter to the right but now I’m thinking a little white space would be better. I’d love to hear your opinions. Do you think I should add the Mad Hatter or leave it as it is? If he is being inserted, he’ll be a short little thing- ha ha!

As you can see, Alice is there but the details are lacking. The embroidered details will be added tonight. Provided I don’t add the Mad Hatter, I will be working on the background adding flowers and branches. I may add tiny flowers to the bushes in the front but I won’t decide until the background is done. It’s all about maintaining balance and focus. I have picked the colour scheme for the flowers. If I finish Alice tonight and there is no Mad Hatter, I can see me finishing the overall work by the end of next week.

Embroidering Words

January 22nd, 2011 § 2 comments § permalink

It took me around two hours to embroider these two words. I was pleased with the results! Points to those who can get the Monty Python reference. Embroidering directly on cotton shouldn’t be as difficult as doing it on felt. Tomorrow, I’m off to tackle the very fat Cheshire Cat!
