Stone Mantilla

Second piece in the nature series. I have one more digital piece in mind for the series. Then I will continue working on the fairy tale project.

I know it has been a while and I know you all thought I have abandoned embroidery. Fear not, I will have an embroidery post soon! I am also thinking of executing Curioser and Curioser into an embroidery piece!

How is your summer going?

New Illustration: Wooded

It took a while but I have finally found my style. This is it. I love this turned out and my line work addiction is showcased well. Prints will be available as soon as I get my printer up and running. I need to revamp my etsy shop as well.

I am off to take pictures of textures now for future works!

Have you been doodling lately?

Les Folies

Les Folies

This is a piece I’ve drawn in a vintage style. I am still trying to hammer down my personal style. I know I love the linework in this piece and I will continue this trend in the next piece. I keep thinking of girls with copious hair and animals. As for the embroidered themed pieces you have seen before, I intend to recreate those in actual embroidery. Expect a Follow Me Home and Curiouser & Curiouser in the future.

What have you all been up to? Summer is here!

Return to Illustration

Lace & Her

I got a chunky art store gift certificate from my sister and it’s given me a chance to return to illustration. I’ve decided to try something new and use copics/inks on wood canvas. The above is the result of a spontaneous afternoon of doodling. I may put that up in my Etsy shop once I figure out the shipping costs. It’ll be around the $25-$30 range plus shipping.

I’m currently working on the piece below. It’s totally spontaneous and I have no idea what I’ll be doing next. I kind of like this seat of my pants method. I am usually pretty meticulous about planning out a piece. This process is kind of nice and organic.

I will be picking up my artwork from Aboveground this weekend. Thanks for those who managed to make it to Aboveground and see it in person. 🙂 It means so much to me.

Getting back into Illustration/Painting

October 5th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Lady and the Unicorn

I was illustrating/painting full time back when I just got married from 2005-2007. I was selling work on eBay and did well then I just stopped. I also joined the local art group and thought I was well on my way to being an artist. I stalled. I didn’t just stall. I just stopped drawing. I found other hobbies which filled the need to do something creatively. I got into hand sewing but creatively overall, I felt stagnated. My lowest point came when during Natalie’s nine months of colic. Having a baby with colic was sheer hell. You felt like an inadequate parent and worse, you feel you have failed to comfort your child. I was just as miserable as Natalie. When she finally stopped and got better, I found myself still quite angry and resentful.

The only curing balm to my soul was returning to art. I began doing embroidery and found I loved the results and the process. I am now yearning to return to my illustration/painting roots- my first love. I have plans to make a mini art order of a wooden canvas, copics, inks, and varnish after I’m finished the projects I’m supposed to be doing. I want to have paintings hanging again in the house and this time, I want to do art on my own terms again. I’m whipping out the sketchbook today and doing some preliminary studies/sketches for my first painting. Knowing me, it’ll be a fairytale. 😉

Upcoming Plans

Julius' Garden

Little Red is underway. I am not done yet but I will post pictures once it is finished. It is looking great and exactly like I hoped it would. I will be taking a break after this piece is finished. I have been doing embroidery non-stop since January. After Little Red, I would have produced four complete pieces. My eyes, hands, and brain need a break. I am imposing a month or two hiatus when I’ll be working on sketching, doll clothing, plushie making, reading or just taking it easy. My next embroidery project will be Hansel and Gretel. By mid September, I need to get Little Red done as well as an illustration (if I’m lucky two pieces) into the fine art category.

On another note, I’ve just finished the Moirin Trilogy by Jacqueline Carey and it was compelling. I devoured each book as quick as I can. It was the first set of books I really, truly loved in a long time. I hope I can fall in love with another series or book again as much as I have with this one. I have a long reading list still. I think I will post recommendations of those I truly love on here.

Fairytale Illustration Project: Little Mermaid

FTIP #1: The Little Mermaid

This is a piece I posted a long time but it is the first entry in my Fairytale Illustration Project. This is meant to complement my embroidery. I have a Little Mermaid piece underway which I’ll need to work on soon. I have a small black portfolio which will contain all the art. I love that I can just flip through the pages once it’s done. Every artwork will be 5″ x 7.”

I started a painting but it turned into a complete fail because I used too many mediums. Ah well. I now learned that I will be doing all future works using coloured cardstock for the background. They will all have this in common and perhaps I can see my style/work evolving when I’m finally done filling the pages.

Alice in Wonderland Trikky WIP # 3

I had to wait for sealant to dry so I took a break for a day. I finished the White Rabbit.

Alice in Wonderland Trikky WIP #4

This is Alice. I sprayed sealant again to make sure everything is protected. It’ll be another 24 hours until I can work on the teacup/Dormouse. I also need to work on the arms which will be “Eat Me” and “Drink Me.”

It’s getting there! 😀
