My Melody

Cinnamoroll

I’m in between projects right now. I’m working on a birthday present for my friend, Steph. She asked to have hair clips made of Sanrio and cutesy characters. Steph is a sweet lolita. Lolita is a fashion originating from Japan. The above pictures are the four appliques I have finished so far. I still need to add cardstock to the back before glueing them to alligator hair clips. I have two more left to do and I hope to get it all done by Monday.

In the meantime, I’m on the hunt for a sturdy box to ship it in. I’ll be off to the local dollar store. I’ll have pictures over the weekend before I get this package ready for shipping on Monday.

A Quiet Weekend

It was the civic holiday weekend up here. It was fairly quiet which is always nice. I am in between projects now. I’m in the midst of making a friend’s birthday present. It is a set of clips for her hair with six Sanrio characters: The Little Twin Stars, Cinnamoroll, My Melody, Korillakuma, and Mamegoma. She is into lolita fashion and these clips will look adorable in her hair. I should be done this project by the end of next week at the latest.

The next project will be an oval portrait of a fairy tale character. I have decided to do a series of these in addition to the larger pieces. The portraits are quicker to finish and are a bit of a break from the larger, labour-intensive pieces like Little Red. This portrait will be my fifth piece since January when I began to embroider. It’s nice to be able to look back and see how far I’ve come and what I’ve learned.

If you are an avid reader, I thank you. Feel free to ask questions so I can do a mailbag post once a week.

N.B. Bead stash is getting low. I’ll need to do a drive by bead run sometime soon!

The 10000 Hour Theory

I was reading Shania Twain’s autobiography when I came across a passage about the 10000 Hour Theory. The theory is that in order to master anything you need to put in 10000 hours of practice. It makes a ton of sense to me and I am a believer. I want to do this for myself with my writing and with my art (includes embroidery and illustration).

I was thinking of taking a hiatus but I changed my mind. I will get small projects done but I am going to still have a project on the go. I felt a sense of loss when I finished Little Red. I was just eager to start on the next project and my mind is already brimming with ideas. Initially I wanted to do Hansel and Gretel as the next big piece but a new idea supplanted it. Hansel and Gretel will join my long list of future projects. The next big project will be Titania and Oberon. I won’t start on this until I’m finished making a friend’s present and have completed a mini project. The mini project will be a portrait of a fairy tale character.

Apparently, being idle isn’t something I’m comfortable with at the moment. It’s part of my somewhat ADD personality. I’m happiest when I have a novel and a few projects on the go.
